Noah has been into track for the last month or so. He has tried out hurdles, long jump, relays, and sprints. He is doing well and having a great time. It does bring back memories of my own track days in high school, which I still look back fondly on. I think I might have him interested in pole vaulting, still one of the coolest things I’ve ever done.
And I think the whole family might be getting into it. We had our first Disneyland/Zombie run training routine. All of us got out of the house and went up to King park up the road, little over a mile or so. We walked and jogged up to the park. Once at the park, I tried to remember all the exercises we did back in high school. Luckily, Noah is doing similar exercises and we put together our first training routine today.
We started with a good warm up consisting of high knees, butt kicks, high skips, long skips, lunges, backwards, and one or two others that have escaped me. About 40 yards, back and forth. We stretched here, really good stretching routine. From there we did 5-40 yard wind sprints. We did several sets of tire runs, and we ended with 5 hill runs up the west face of King park. We started at 60% effort, ending up at 100%.
I’ve very proud of the whole family. We’d like to keep this up through the summer, helping Noah get ready for Cross Country next year. We also want to do the Arizona Run for your Lives http://www.runforyourlives.com/locations/arizona/ in November. We have a long ways to go, but I know we’ll get there.
